The managament of the Workers Centre Zakynthos (EKZ) are calling for its memebrs to strike on Wednesday 2nd of October.
The rally will take place at 10.00a.m in front of the Reginl Office Buildings. In an attempt that their voices will be heard against a bill that will be introduced in Parliament, they will continue to fight.
The “development” bill introduced a few days ago by the government seeks to clamp down on what labor-wage rights among other things.
As the management claim, it is clear that the growth they want will be pushed back on workers shoulders, to the even greater abolition of rights and trade union freedoms, since:
It essentially abolishes Sectoral Collective Employment Agreements (BPAs) and their obligation to ‘create problems’ in competitiveness, ie business profits, provide for additional ‘exceptions’ and ‘additional conditions’ in areas designated as ‘special economic zones’ or to companies that will rely on financial problems.
It makes business and local contracts override sectoral. So it leads to an even greater reduction in our miserable wages. The average wage is already officially reduced by 25%, but obviously this is not enough for their “growth” and “has to” be reduced further!
The right to one-sided arbitration (OMED) is abolished so that even arbitration decisions on the remuneration of workers are not made.
It provides that when the employer fails to pay the insurance contributions, the employee is also liable, so that the stamps are not recognized.
In order to continue undisturbed all these anti-labor overturns and a series of “gifts” to capital, government and employers want a “cemetery silence”, with unions subordinated and controlled, with workers not responding. That is why the bill promotes the electronic file of trade unions and workers, trying to put struggles and trade unionism in the “plaster”.
Appoints the Minister “supreme lord” to intervene and decide on the operation of the unions, abolishing their statutes and their autonomy.
It establishes an electronic register and electronic voting by abolishing collective processes such as general meetings, lively debate among colleagues, preventing them from making mobilization decisions. It puts greater obstacles in the strike.
It opens the way for employees to have their electronic records and electronic voting to be handed over to the employer to check on the real unions and the workers, as to what information they have and where they will go will be decided by the Minister of Labor.
