The Ionian has not been without its luxury boats, yachts and cruise liners. However, this time attention was drawn to one particular super yacht known as “Al Lusail.
The 123 metre motor yacht owned by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani, was moored at the famous landmark of “Navagio” or shipwreck cove, yesterday Saturday, 20th July. It was said that he along with a few associates visited our Island and in particular the area of Anafonitria, where he stopped to have a coffee and visit the monastery of “Our Virgin Mother”
According to sources from one Zakynthian newspaper HMERA, the locals even offered the Emir a goat and other Zakynthian delicacies throughout his visit.
This is the first visit the Emir has taken, to what locals would say the most talked about land. It is well known that he is expected to invest in property, and now that the government has changed hands, it seems that the request to try and improve dealings for investments to go ahead, is high on the list.
Perhaps it was of no coincidence that the Qatar Ambassador met with the Minister of Development and Investment Adonis Georgiades recently. Information indicates that the meeting was to try and get the minister’s help to overcome problems faced in starting the investment on our Island.
