The Regional Governor promised support to the volunteer civil protection groups of Zakynthos.

A meeting with the Voluntary Civil Protection Groups and the Aeroclub of Zakynthos was held by the Regional Director of the Ionian Islands Rodi Kratsa – Tsagaropoulou with the participation of the Deputy Regional Governor of Zakynthos George Stoinofelis and the Deputy Governor Zion of the Deputy Regional Head of e-Government and European Programs Costas Kapodistrias.

The Governor congratulated the members of the Teams for their timeless contribution and thanked them for their participation and contribution not only in dealing with “IANOS” and any other emergency such as fires and assured that it would seek immediate support in equipment from the budget of the Ionian Islands Region, but also from the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management Mr. Nikos Hardalia, recording satellite phones as a primary need.

The representatives of the Volunteer Groups of Keri Mr. Petros Paraschis, Lithakias Mrs. Dimitra Marinou, Agala Mr. Giannis Kladi, and the Aeroclub Mrs. Stathis Malapetsa informed the Regional Governor about their effective cooperation with the Regional Unit of Zakynthos.

The Regional Governor also acknowledged the needs for securing their role in the institutional framework, as well as for continuous education and presented the positive development of the “LAERTIS” program for civil protection which was inactive for a number of years, and through the Volunteer Groups in operational infrastructure and personal protection will be supported in the coming months.

The Deputy Regional Minister of European Programs K. Kapodistrias informed about the cross-border cooperation program Greece – Italy concerning the supply of our Region with a drone which will monitor on the one hand any environmental outbreaks that occur and will cooperate with civil protection for information. This program provides for the supply of electronic sensor devices that will record data on a special basis and which will be made available primarily to voluntary organizations and interested citizens, in the context of collective responsibility and information.
