Tuesday and 13 ( Τρίτη και δεκατρείς) Be Aware!!!

Tuesday and 13 ( Τρίτη και δεκατρείς)

We know that the whole Western superstition world considers Friday the 13th as an unlucky day, right?

Well, for Greeks, the days of bad luck and misfortune is Tuesday the 13th! Tuesday is generally an unlucky day as the day is supposed to be dominated by the influence of Ares, the god of war

 It is Tuesday the thirteenth!

Similar to our Friday the 13th…

Superstition or fact?…

13 throughout the world has been known to be an unlucky number. Superstitious suffers of triskaidekaphobia try to avoid bad luck by keeping away from anything numbered or labelled 13. Historians believe superstition surrounding the number 13 began in the 17th century. Although, they cannot identify one single event that sparked it’s bad reputation.

The Greeks also consider Tuesday (and especially the 13th) an unlucky day. Tuesday is considered dominated by the influence of Ares, the god of war (Mars in Roman mythology). The fall of Constantinople to the Fourth Crusade occurred on Tuesday, April 13th, 1204, and the Fall of Constantinople to the Ottomans happened on Tuesday, 29th May 1453. Those who are into numerology, just add the numbers of the year. 1+4+5+3 = 13, events that strengthen the superstition about Tuesday and the number 13. In addition, in Greek the name of the day is Triti (Τρίτη) meaning the third (day of the week), adding weight to the superstition, since bad luck is said to “come in threes”.

For Christian Greeks, chapter 13 of the Revelation speaks of the antichrist. Astrologist have the Tuesdays dominated by Mars, the god of War known as Ares to Greeks. He represents the violent and physical untamed aspect of war. Greeks were ambivalent towards him because of his dangerous overwhelming force that was insatiable in battle.

So…now you tell me fact or superstition?
