SUNDAY, 31st MARCH

Walk #1

with the cultural club of Agios Kyrikos ‘”Antonios Martelaos’. We are invited to a walk in Korakonisi.
The walk is about 4 km. Meeting at 09.30 at the central square of Agios Kyrikas OR at 10.00 at the church of Koiliomenos.

A few kilometres from the village of Koiliomenos lies Korakonissi. A small strip of land joins the rock with the land, characteristic the arch carved by nature in the rock. Korakonissi is renowned for its stunning quality of afralo (natural sea salt). Returning to Koiliomenos, we will admire the old church and bell tower, which was built in 1893 by local stone craftsmen. We will visit the Womens Agricultural Cooperative of Koiliomenos ‘Melissiotisses’. The object of the work of the club is to produce traditional products (sweets, jams, cheese, honey, etc.).

Walk #2

The group ‘me parea kromatizoume ti zoi’ invites us to a walk in Romyri, that will be combined with a historic, architectural, traditional tribute, in  the area between Romyri and Macherados.

A relaxing walk to small, inaccessible, hidden beaches of Zakynthos. Meeting at 11.00 on the municipal road of Zakynthos-Romyri, about 5 kms from the arch of Agios Lazaros, town. The circular path of the walk that we will follow will be in fields of vines, olives, greens, nettles, herbs, aromatic plants. The route is about 4 km and is on level ground. The only difficulty is that many times we have to go through uncut grass. We have chosen an old mansion of the Karer family, designed by German architect Ernst Ziller (1837-1923) as the starting point. Our walk will begin with a guided tour of the exterior of the Karer mansion where there is the only cork-tree on the island. After seeing the cork-tree we will have the pleasure of a tour of the Karer family mansion by Katerina Demetti, archaeologist and director of the Solomos Museum & eminent Zakynthians. After the tour, we go along the road of the estate to one of its exits, where there is a 19th century stone sofa at the end of.

Please check, during the weekend, as new activites / events, if made known, will be added.
