One of the most asked questions we see on our Facebook group is about the weather during the tourist season, so we’ve decided to put together all the answers for you!
April
The weather in April is an average of 16C, with a few cloudy skies, but increasing sunshine. There’s the possibility of rain but also some sunshine too. The nights are still chilly though and it’s worth ensuring you have something to keep you warm in case you need it.
May
The weather in May is often good during the day with temperatures hitting the low to mid-20s. There’s still the possibility of some cloudy days and rain but there’s more sunshine. Like April you may still need a jacket or cardigan for the evenings as the nights can still be cooler.
June
The weather in June is temperate, with sunshine and very little rain. Temperatures average 24C but can be hotter. It’s a nice month for those who like it hot and sunny but not overwhelmingly warm.
July
July is one of the hottest months, and the temperatures can be an average of 35C, but has been as high as 42C in past years! The sun can be strong, so plenty of sunscreen and water are recommended. Nighttime is hot around 20C. Rainfall is minimal, but thunderstorms aren’t uncommon.
August
Like July, August is another hot month, with temperatures very similar to the previous month. Like July the sun is strong in August, and it’s wise to take precautions to prevent sunstroke and dehydration. In August rainfall is minimal, but like in July thunderstorms aren’t uncommon.
September
In September the temperatures start to drop again and are an average of 24C, prone to occasional rainfall. The nights can be cooler, so as with early in the season, a cardigan or jacket is recommended. September is still a good month to visit the island, you just need to be prepared for a change in the weather.
October
The weather in October can be mixed, with sunshine and showers. We also stay positive for good weather though! As with April, May and September, the nights are colder. It’s recommended to pack a jacket, jumper, cardigan, and a small umbrella just in case. Whatever the weather in October, there is plenty to see and do.
Weather in the Winter season
Our winter season runs from November to March and the weather can be different to many people’s ideas of Greek islands. We often have a lot of rain, thunderstorms and temperatures dropping making it cold. Zakynthos has even been known to have snow, although on the occasions it’s happened in recent years, it hasn’t remained for long. Severe weather in the winter can also cause landslips and tornados, so it’s very different to the often-expected idea of a sunny getaway destination all year round.
The summer weather is generally very good in Zakynthos though, but we would always advise you to check the local weather forecast, just in case. As we all know, wherever you are in the world, the weather can be incredibly temperamental!
