On the island of Zakynthos, Greece Sue Deeth and her dedicated family-oriented Animal Rescue team, Healing Paws Animal Rescue need help and support. They have been helping strays on Zakynthos for ten years, supported by many people who selflessly give their time and money to make the lives of abandoned cats and dogs better by rescuing them, protecting them, and eventually helping to find them a new home.

Healing Paws need to build a shelter on the island, in fact, they have been specifically looking for the right piece of land on Zakynthos for years. Recently they found the perfect piece of land to build this important animal shelter on. The team started planning the build and getting ready to make their dreams a reality. Sadly due to Brexit and Greek laws, they have been told this week that they are unable to purchase the land using the money in the UK Charity Bank account!

This news has been both shocking and heartbreaking for Healing Paws and everyone who has helped them to try and get this much-needed project off the ground.

Healing Paws Animal Rescue is a registered Greek non-profit organisation. Every penny given to them goes straight back into caring for the animals. Healing Paws has a contract to work with the Municipality of Zakynthos to help stray and abandoned animals on the island. Healing Paws have been told that they can legally raise funds on Zakynthos for the shelter, and have a Greek corporate bank account for Healing Paws Animal Rescue to which they can receive funds. This means that they CAN collect the money needed for building the shelter through their Greek bank account.

The current amount Healing Paws need is €44,000. That may seem like a lot of money, but in reality, it’s not. In the end, it will provide dedicated land, a shelter, and a much-needed space for Healing paws to continue their vital work for the cats and dogs of Zakynthos.
