ZaCLEANthos removed plastics and rubbish from Alykanas beach

The beach of Alykanas was the next stop to continue the social work of the voluntary team “Zacleanthos”. With a support from their members and friends, and a great mood, a change of appearance with the area was seen by removing garbage and any other forms of filth. Once again, along with 22 volunteers willing to help, they cleaned the seashore from the loads of rubbish that had been there.

As a society, we must do something to improve our living conditions. Many people came from the Alykanas area. Last year we had a lot of people who also helped us. There are quite a few who are interested in cleaning the beach. We deserve our beaches to be clean from rubbish. The beaches are the most important. Every week we do something. We were in Katastari for the second time a few days ago because there are many buses with touriststhat go pass there, “Ventoula Vassiskova, a member of the Group, told us to our newspaper.

Once again a great deal of rubbish was found on the beach areas of Alykanas and most filled with plastics and various kinds of rubbish with Mrs. Vasiskova adding “We always find plastics. This happens every time. We found many pieces of plastic. Those who come, see what exactly is done with the rubbish. We even found pieces of furniture, deck chairs, umbrellas, toys and shoes. We even collected a door from a freezer that was on the beach. “

The point is that citizens need to be sensitized and stop waiting for the authorities to do something about their place, as she states “I feel bad when I live in such an environment and do nothing. As a society, we must do something and we must do it now. We are a small island and we can do something to make a difference. “

Of course cleaning does not stop here, as “Zacleanthos” we will go to Tsilivi beach to try and get rid of the amount of rubbish there. Indeed, in the future sites that we would like to visit is the beach of Agios Sostis, which reminds us that in the past it has been the subject of commenting on the amount of rubbish that accumulates near the small  harbour.
