Zakynthos:- Air-conditioned hospitality rooms available during heatwave.

According to the Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena of E.M.Y.www.hnms.gr, heat conditions will prevail in our country in the next few days.

 

Warm air masses moving from Western Europe and the coast of North Africa towards our region will cause a noticeable rise in temperatures over the next few days in most of the country. The areas that will be most affected are mainly the western, central and northern parts of the country.

From Saturday (23-07-2022) until Monday (25-07-2022) and while the minimum temperature values ​​initially will not be particularly high, the maximum values ​​in the Ionian Islands will range from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, while in many areas of the country at 41 to 42 degrees Celsius.

Due to the high temperatures that will also prevail in our region, at the request of the Deputy Regional Governor P.E. Zakynthos Mr. Aikaterinis Mothonaios to the President of O.D.A.Z. Mr. Dionysios Kamvassi, there will be air-conditioned hospitality rooms available for those of our fellow citizens who need it, always taking into account the protection measures against Covid-19. The concession of the rooms will be effective from tomorrow, Saturday 23 July 2022 and for as long as deemed necessary, in accordance with the heat conditions that will prevail in Zakynthos.

In the announcement issued by the Department of Civil Protection of the P.E. Zakynthos, it is mentioned:

“On behalf of the Deputy Governor of Zakynthos and the Department of Civil Protection of the P.E. Zakynthos, we want to express our sincere thanks for the immediate response of the President of the O.D.A.Z., as well as the employees who will undertake the reception and hospitality of our fellow citizens who need it.

The Department of Civil Protection of the Regional Unit of Zakynthos informs the residents of the island, and in particular those who belong to the vulnerable groups, to meticulously apply all measures to prevent the effects of the heat wave and to avoid unnecessary movements.

Based on the instructions of the National Public Health Organization (EODY) for heat protection, the following population groups are considered vulnerable to the heat:

 

• The extreme age groups (infants, children, elderly).
•Patients suffering from chronic diseases (e.g. cardiac, respiratory, diabetes, etc.) or from serious neurological or psychiatric diseases.
•Persons receiving medication with anti-hypertensives (eg diuretics, beta-blockers) and other drugs.
•People with obesity.
•People who work or live outdoors or athletes.
•People who drink a lot of alcohol or use drugs.

Heat protection tips

• Drink plenty of fluids (water, fruit or vegetable juices).
•Avoid drinking coffee and alcohol.
•Avoid direct exposure to the sun and limit your movements. Stay in shady and cool places, avoiding crowded places.
• If possible, use air conditioners or a fan during the hottest hours of the day
•Dress in light, comfortable and non-colorful clothing. Wear a hat and sunglasses when outdoors.
• Take many, lukewarm showers during the day.
• If you sweat a lot, you can increase your salt intake (seek a doctor’s advice if you have been advised to limit your salt intake).
•Eat small (in quantity) and light meals, emphasizing the consumption of fruits and vegetables and limiting “heavy” foods.
•Avoid heavy manual work, especially in areas with high temperature, no breeze and high humidity.
• If you suffer from chronic diseases (respiratory, cardiovascular, etc.) consult your doctor about any special measures you should take.
•If you have a newborn at home, make sure he is dressed lightly. Ask your pediatrician for instructions on fluid intake.
•Close exterior windows during the hottest hours of the day and leave them open at night.
•Avoid as much as possible the use of ovens and kitchens so as not to increase the temperature of your home.
•Never leave infants, the elderly, pets in a closed car
• If you experience any discomfort or discomfort, contact your doctor.

Think of our vulnerable fellow human beings!!

If you know elderly people, children, lonely people, patients with chronic diseases

Make sure:

• Not to stay alone on hot days
•To receive sufficient amounts of fluids
• Have access to a cool/air-conditioned area
