Reports of another incident involving British tourists have come to light again, this time involving a 23 year old who had been treated at the Zakynthos hospital with a serious head injury, after a fight with two of his compatriots at Zakynthos port.
According to information, two British citizens have been arrested by the Zakynthos Coast Guard, after the 23-year was seriously injured.
As soon as they arrived at the port and after disembarking from the ship, they argued, for an as yet unknown reason. One of the arrested pushed the 23-year-old, who fell and hit his head on the ground.
He was immediately transferred to the Zakynthos hospital, where he was intubated due to the severity of his injuries. Yesterday at noon, the air transport took place, after the relevant decision made by the treating doctors of the young man, at the General Hospital of Zakynthos.

In the statement issued by the Headquarters of the Coast Guard regarding the incident of the beating of the young Briton on Wednesday night in the port, before the airlift to Tzanio, it is stated:
“In the arrest of a 17-year-old foreigner, for violation of article 310 of the Criminal Code. (serious bodily harm) and a 20-year-old for violation of articles 310 and 42 of the Criminal Code. (attempted grievous bodily harm) officers of the Port Authority of Zakynthos took place yesterday evening.
Specifically, the relevant Port Authority was informed about an incident of beating that took place at, the under-construction Zakynthos marina, after the E/G-T/R vessel ran aground, resulting in serious injury of a 23-year-old foreigner.
The injured was transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Zakynthos, where he remains hospitalized in the ICU (Intensive Treatment Unit).
The Port Authority of Zakynthos, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, is looking for another foreigner as part of the automatic procedure.”
Injured transferred to another hospital
Yesterday at noon 21/07/22, after the relevant decision made by the treating doctors of the young man, at the General Hospital of Zakynthos, it was decided to transfer the young man to Janeo (Τζάνειο) Prefecture General Hospital of Piraeus.

The president of the Workers’ Association of the General Hospital of Zakynthos, Petros Giakoumelos, said: “These days we are dealing with too many incidents and serious ones, after traffic accidents and beatings. On Wednesday around 20.30, a seriously injured person arrived by the ambulance from a beating, as reported by some who were with him. We proceeded with CT scans and it was found that he has severe head injuries. He was immediately intubated and transferred to the ICU. I want to emphasize that these days the staff are doing their best, dealing with very serious incidents.”
Mr. Giakoumelos emphasized that there is a big struggle every time to transfer an incident to another hospital and especially in the middle of the summer season.
“It’s another big fight that happens when an incident has to be served. A unit has to be found and the doctor has to deal with the paperwork. It’s a huge process to transfer the case to another hospital.”
Initially, after the episode, the young man was taken by EKAV ambulance to the GNZ where it was found that he had suffered severe brain injuries and was intubated.
According to information, the fight started after disembarking from the boat and before boarding the bus that was going to pick them up after the party. Two people, a minor and an adult, have been arrested by officers of the Coast Guard for the episode, who are being held at the Port Authority’s detention facilities.

Our fellow citizens expressed their concern on the occasion of this incident of beating a tourist, which is the second (serious) one that has occurred in a few days on the island.
