Complaints were expressed to the Deputy Mayor Nikitas Spinos by presidents of Local Communities, who were at the City Hall yesterday morning, due to the problems that exists in regards to garbage collection. The presidents asked Mr. Spinos to find an immediate solution. He on his part informed that the Municipality will make a contract even with individuals in order to normalize the situation and added that this is a transitional period.
“We have five machines (shovels) and three grabbers and we will put them privately to collect the garbage. Today (yesterday) we have three garbage trucks. In two days we will also have 1-2 more. We will “run” the contract with two private companies. That is what we decided. It’s a transitional situation. ”
The president of Gerakari, Marinos Kordellos, stressed that the “selective” collection must be addressed… “We maintain our reservations. “How will the selective collection of garbage be dealt with is the issue, because there will be a huge conflict”, he said to the Deputy Mayor.
The president of Macherados, Haris Agaliotis, noted: “Our fellow villagers criticize us and say that in some villages the collection takes place normally. We are told that in Tsilivi and Vasiliko collection is taking place “.
The president of Anafonitria, Stamatis Tsoukalas, said that a garbage truck hasn’t passed through some villages for 15 days and asked for immediate solutions.
Mr. Nikitas Spinos, responding to the presidents, stressed: “We are looking at all of Zakynthos as a whole. “Yes, there is an increased attention because in some areas the production of garbage is more increased, but we are interested in all the villages”.
Also present at the discussion with Mr. Spinos was the president of T.K. Katastariou Dionysis Skiadopoulos, the president of T.K. Pigadakion D. Vertzagias and the president of T.K. Vasilikou Petros Giannoulis.
