Wishes for the new school year to be better within the education sector were sent by the new President of the Parents’ Association, who said that if we look at the previous two years the conditions were difficult and dangerous due to the pandemic.
“We are optimistic that this year things will be better and we are constantly having meetings with both the Director of the Secondary School and the Deputy Mayor of Education, but also with the Deputy District Governor on the issue of the transfer of students and the way it will be done this year. Specifically, whether the students will have a card or whether buses will be rented,” said the President.
The school season must start with the best possible conditions, although many things have been set in motion, added Mr. Vardakastanis.
In regards to the cleaners in schools, the President said that they are already taking up duties and for the maintenance in the schools, he said that it is being completed. Regarding the projects, he mentioned that work is still continuing on the 3rd Primary School, the 2nd High School and elsewhere.
“We keep pushing and it’s a race to be ready for the opening of schools. The authorities who have the obligation must finish them. The existing program is good and must be completed,” said Mr. Nikos Vardakastanis.
With reference to the data of the time, the President said that the obligations have increased and did not fail to remind us that the files with the data of all the school buildings must be completed, a process that has been started for many years. Also this will help to implement European programs in which schools cannot join unless they have at least building permits!
“In order for the schools to open, the interventions at the Ammos Primary School must be finished, the ramps must be made and all the other interventions that have been started must be completed and 70% of them are ready. There are 20 interventions that must be finished” added the President of the Parents’ Association.
It is noted that the construction of the roof at the 3rd High School, which was damaged in the last bad weather, will be finished within the next few days.
According to the relevant legislation, this year’s courses start on September 12, 2022.
As the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, recently stated, schools will open on September 12 with the “best possible human resource condition of all time”.
The new school year usually starts on the 11th of September, however, because that date falls on a Sunday this year, they will open the very next day, which is Monday the 12th of September.
