The seismologist expressed his concern about the situation on the famous beach of Zakynthos.
Seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos conveyed his concern about the famous “Navagio” beach in Zakynthos and the images of tourists crowded by the hundreds under the steep rocks in a Facebook post.
As he reports, attaching the relevant photos,
“hundreds of tourists are transported en masse and crowded right under the hanging vertical slopes. With an earthquake they will collapse.”
His statement on his Social Media page read:-
Tourism without protection is not tourism!
Zakynthos, at the famous Shipwreck, I found myself for scientific reasons. Hundreds of tourists are transported en masse and crowd right below the overhanging vertical slopes. With an earthquake they will collapse. But even without an earthquake, as happened about 4 years ago, when part of the slope – fortunately small – collapsed, causing a local tsunami and visitors ran in panic to save themselves. Next time it will not be fortunately but unfortunately.
I did not go down, I did not want to participate in such an “experience”.
