Zakynthos:- Coronavirus measures extended till 12 October.

In a press release by the National Public Health Organisation on Friday, 02 October, measures have been extended due to the increase in new cases throughout the country. The press release states the following:-

According to competitive tests conducted across the country, 4% -11% of cases are imported. Therefore, after a relevant proposal and consultation with the Committee of Experts, it was decided to extend the measures to combat the spread of coronavirus until October 12.

With regard to flights from abroad, from tomorrow 3 October until 12 October, passengers on flights from Poland must also have a negative Covid-19 test, which must have been carried out up to 72 hours before their arrival, in order to enter the country. The same applies to passengers on flights from the Czech Republic.

Also, until October 12, the obligation of passengers on flights from Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, United Arab Emirates, Malta, Belgium, Spain, Albania and Northern Macedonia to have a negative Covid-19 test, which will be completed by 72 hours, is extended. before their arrival in order to enter the country.

I keep hearing if we will take additional measures. The question, once again, is whether the measures already taken are being followed. You all see the pictures from different places, people without masks, without any precaution.

The controls have been intensified. But it is not possible to have a police officer in every part of the country. The non-observance of the protection measures has nothing to do with the avoidance of any coercion on the part of the State.

We protect ourselves and those around us. There are no invulnerable. Country presidents and prime ministers are infected with the virus, as are all of us. We must therefore learn to live with the virus and learn to protect ourselves from it. There is no other way to deal with it at the moment. And winter is coming, when we all know that things are getting harder and harder.

I especially want to focus on the issue of vulnerable groups and especially the elderly. The examples in nursing homes show why we need to be doubly careful. Checks are frequent. This structure has been tested twice, but the risk is daily. There is already the intervention of the prosecutor and any responsibilities that will be assigned, but the aim is to avoid such situations.

Let me inform you about the specific elderly care unit in Agios Panteleimonas where 47 cases have been identified, 42 residents and 5 employees, that at the moment only those who are negative remain in the unit as all cases have been transferred. Residents have been admitted to hospitals, and employees are being monitored at home.

In addition, the possibility of entering and exiting it has been suspended, with the exception of the staff, while they are carried out daily by KOMY of EODY for precautionary reasons.

It is also worth noting that a team from the National Transparency Authority carried out an autopsy yesterday at the elderly care center, while an inspection is being carried out by the Public Health Supervisors of EODY, in order to determine what led to this development and to assign any responsibilities.

I would like to emphasize once again the need for strict observance of all rules and protocols in nursing homes because it is our duty to protect our fellow citizens who are most at risk of the disease.

Then I would like to inform you about the cases that were identified earlier today in a cannery in Mavrovouni of Skydra in Pella.

After the detection of 114 cases, the operation of the operation was suspended and the Secretary General of Civil Protection, Mr. Papageorgiou, the Director of Epidemiological Surveillance of EODY, Mrs. Flora Kontopidou, are already there, in Pella, who participate with Tzamtzi, the Mayors of the region and representatives of institutions, in a meeting that is currently taking place to manage and limit the spread of the coronavirus. At the same time, we are in constant communication with the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitzikostas, for any issue that will arise from the management needs of this situation.

In any case, I appeal to the residents of Pella to be very careful in observing the measures, especially in the following days and to follow the instructions of the experts. The situation is extremely critical and we must not leave any room for greater, further spread of the disease in the region. The use of a mask, the observance of distances, the avoidance of any synchronicity are imperative. It is the only way to limit the spread of the virus in the wider area of Pella.

There is also an intense epidemiological burden in Kythnos, which as of this morning is under special restrictive measures.

More specifically, the operation of all food and drink services from 12 midnight to 5am the next morning is prohibited.

Any kind of event is suspended. Public markets are excluded, which will operate with a distance limit of 5 meters between the sellers’ counters and 50% of the capacity per category of sellers.

Any kind of gathering of citizens over 9 people is prohibited for any reason, both in public and in private.

In dining areas a maximum number of people is allowed at each table of 4 people, unless they are first degree relatives, where up to 6 people are allowed.

And finally, it is mandatory, the use of a mask both outdoors and indoors throughout the island.

My dear fellow citizens, it is clear that self-protection measures are the only means we have to protect ourselves and those around us until the vaccine is found. And in order to be effective, in order to be able to protect us, we need our universal participation.

We must all apply them. Thank you.

Zakynthos Informer reminds you that the measures in place now for the Island of Kythos are the same for our Island too. The measures had been in place at the end of August waiting for review. Unfortuantely, due to what is happening around the counrty our measures have been extended along with other areas around Greece until the 12th of October, 2020.

The fight against this virus at the moment is wearing a mask at all times. Stay safe.
