Zakynthos: Former prefect unanimously acquitted in blindness case.
The former prefect of Zakynthos, Dionysis Gasparos, was unanimously acquitted by the five-member Patras Court of Appeals for the case of the welfare benefits for blindness, which was made public in 2011 as a “scandal of numerous beneficiaries-blind people” of Zakynthos.

According to a statement by one of the lawyers of the former prefect, Alexis Kougia, the decision of the court was in line with the proposal of the prosecutor of the Headquarters who suggested the acquittal of Mr. Gasparos, who was facing the offences of false testimony and fraud.
Mr. Kougias, who represented the prefect of the island for a number of years together with the lawyers of Zakynthos, Panagiotis Kefallinos and Antonis Lountzis, states in his statement:
“The defence of the accused showed after a two-day process that the accusation against the 12-year-old prefect and well-known surgeon Mr. Gasparos, was made entirely by his local political opponents, led by former Minister of Justice Mr. Kontonis and the former mayor. , Mr. Boziki, in order to neutralize him politically and he was exploited by a specific political-party group for the alleged emergence of a huge scandal of embezzlement of public money, which became the object of extreme exploitation by the European Union for the establishment of memorandum governments in GREECE”.
