Zakynthos:- Increase of covid in schools causing concern

Dionysios Pothos: “We need the cooperation of all to beat the coronavirus”

Ef. Aggelousis: “Tests performed by teachers and students help to identify cases in the beginning and isolate them”

The epidemiological picture in schools is causing concern in Primary and Secondary Education, with the Supervisors constantly monitoring the developments.

The Head of Secondary Education, Dionysis Pothos, noted: “There is an increase in cases in specific schools, not in all of them. We are following the issue very closely. I asked the principals to be strict with the protocol and in the school where there were several incidents to do more actions than expected. We asked for the assistance of EODY, the Directorate of Health and the Municipality, which last weekend disinfected the specific school where several cases had been identified “.

The Head of Primary Education, Evangelos Aggelousis, noted that the total number of cases since the beginning of the school year is 40. 32 were identified in primary schools, 8 in kindergartens and only 1 in teachers. “Last year we had more at such a time and the consolation is that the cases are scattered. There are schools with 1-2 cases. They are not in the same class, except in the Primary School of Lithakia there were two incidents in the same class and this makes us optimistic. Tests performed by teachers and students help to identify cases in the beginning and isolate them. I ask parents to do normal self-tests on children, because it allows us to detect them in time. We may be tired, but it’s something that needs to be done. ”

Mr. Pothos also said that there is close cooperation with the Deputy Regional Governor and the Deputy Mayor of Education, while he added that most teachers have been vaccinated. “90% of the teachers are vaccinated and the rest follow the protocol and that is why we do not have a single case.”

In more detail:-

More specifically, according to data recorded yesterday Monday, 8 students of Primary Education and 6 students of Secondary were found positive with coronavirus. The cases are distributed throughout the island as they are students of schools in the city and in the villages.

What the Head of Primary Education, Ev. Angeloussis asks is the parents of the students but also the students themselves to be very careful during the extracurricular activities of the children and at the same time to carry out the tests as often as provided by the instructions given by the Ministry of Education.

Finally, it should be noted that since yesterday Monday, a series of changes are in force in relation to the schools, with the most important one concerning the school card and the edupass platform. The platform enrolls students of three public school units (submitted by parent / guardian), teaching staff and members of Special Teaching Staff (SPT) and Special Auxiliary Staff (SPC), any other physical person, who participates with physical presence in any kind of educational process that takes place within the premises of the public educational structure (“visitors”), such as for example students who do internships in the school unit.

The school card printed through the platform records the negative or positive result of the self-examination and in case of a positive result, the prescribed procedure is followed, which provides for the re-examination in a private or public structure.

The availability of self-diagnostic tests (self test) for students from pharmacies began yesterday. Specifically, students will be provided with a total of five free self tests, to meet the control needs from 5 to 22 November.
