Zakynthos meets Holland.

Over the last few days a film crew from Holland have been in Zakynthos filming a different side of Zakynthos. It’s the Zakynthos that so many foreigners have fallen in love with, her history, song and her spirit. It’s the “Real” Zakynthos that most of us know about, those who live permanently on our Island.

So, without giving too much away as in the future we will do an exclusive post regarding this documentary and I will do a write up as soon as the final project has come together,  for now I will let you in on a few behind the scenes shots.

Thanks to Jackie Boots, from Nefis Travel, I had the pleasure of being personally involved in some of the screen shots that were taken. It was Jackie that got in touch with me after being let down by an already planned singing group, she needed someone to sing the National Anthem of Greece and of course a few traditional Zakynthian kandathes (serenades).

It wasn’t long before I got a team together, in my mind the men’s choir of “Faneromeni”, who have a long history within our Island and the new, compared to Faneromeni, women’s choir of “Rodambelos.”  After speaking with the President of Faneromeni, Mr Dionysios Nikolopoulos and the Maestro of Rodambelos, Andrianna Lykouresi, we met and started to put our plan to action. The maestro Stamatis Filiakos and his choir, welcomed the women’s choir with open arms, it was a chance to mix the old with the new but still keeping very much to our traditions. The experience was not only an honour to sing the National Anthem which was written by our own Zakynthian, Dionysios Solomos but to sing it in his homeland, it only brought a sense of Patriotism to all of us that sang today. I have included a few videos and photos, thanks to our friend Desiree Salman and the crew, of what went on today, and we will soon have a video of the documentary the Dutch Film crew took. Enjoy my friends
