On the occasion of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Revolution of 1821 and the liberation, our Municipality submitted a proposal which was included in the national program for the celebration of actions and events, coordinated by the organization “Greece 2021”. The actions and festive events we have planned are entitled “Zakynthos – Greece 2021”
Zakynthos played an important role in the revolution of 1821, since great Zakynthian personalities contributed to the national liberation struggle both diplomatically and economically. Of course, we will also highlight the action of our national poet Dionysios Solomos. These are the characteristics we want to highlight.
We will hold a two-day conference on the actions that took place then and we will present musical and theatrical events. Our ultimate goal is the participation of young people and schools in all this.
We will also examine the actions planned by the “Star of the East” tectonic gallery, which has also submitted a proposal approved by the “Greece 2021” Commission, as well as any other body proposal, to see how we can work together.
Since the passing of medicane Ianos, damage has been caused to more than 30 schools in Zakynthos. With the help of individuals, we managed to repair all the damage, with the exception of the kindergarten of Agios Kirikas, which I believe will also be operational from tomorrow. We are also trying to solve the issue of cleaners. We want to change their working hours from 3 hours to 8 hours, with the additional burden being borne by the Municipality, while our goal is to hire new cleaners. We hope that our planning will pass to the current Municipal Council.
The Mayor personally deals with the issue of Liva. It is a big and complex issue. I was at the meeting that took place in the Region with Mrs. Kratsa and the members of the environmental association “Vrachionas”. We are trying to find the best possible solutions. I was not present at the checks that the Mayor did with Mrs. Mothoneou in Liva, so I do not have a complete picture of the situation there.
