Zakynthos:-Repair work starts at the 1st cemetery of Zakynthos, Bishop of Zakynthos statement. (video)

Personally, but also on behalf of the whole clergy, of our Holy Metropolis, I would like to express our deepest regret for the many and great damage that it caused to houses, shops and other real estate, property of the inhabitants of Zakynthos, the terrible medicane , with a cyclone intensity, which recently hit our island and not only.

We need calm, to face the weather with optimism. Due to the severity of this rare natural phenomenon, as you know, the 1st municipal cemetery of Zakynthos was affected and suffered significant damage, which, as it is known, in addition to its functional purpose, according to its destination, also occurs at a national level, a separate cultural monument of collecting tomb sculptures, and other works of art of significant religious and artistic value.

The inhabitants of the city, and I want to emphasize this, and are anxiously waiting to be close to their loved ones again and to offer the due to their eternal memory and rest of their souls. It is estimated that everyone has fully understood the magnitude and importance of the problem, which must be addressed with understanding, humanity and respect. Therefore, an immediate priority and key issue at the moment, is the fastest possible restoration of the damage of the cemetery of Zakynthos, always respecting the memory of the dead that it hosts and the cultural heritage that it contains.

The Municipality of Zakynthos, which by law is the owner of the 1st resting place, this is the most correct expression, and not a cemetery, because it acts as a resting place until the Resurrection is called within every cemetery, the Municipality that has its administration and management, is the exclusive competent and responsible for the full restoration of the damage and the restoration of the proper operation of the cemetery.
