Zakynthos to recieve approximately 4,500,000.00 Euros for road work project.

The Planning Convention for the Implementation of the “Ionian Islands Region – Road Safety Improvement Action Plan on Parts of the National and Provincial Road Networks, in particular Corfu, Kefalonia, Lefkada and Zakynthos”, approved at yesterday’s meeting of the Ionian Islands Council following a recommendation from the Ionian Regional Governor Rhodes Kratsa – Tsagaropoulou.

The contract, with a total budget of € 30 million, including VAT, is between the Ionian Islands Region, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the company Egnatia Odos SA. ̈ (EOEA) (public body supervised by the Ministry).

The program contract is aimed at speedily implementing projects to improve the national and provincial roads of the Ionian Islands in order to improve its road safety and to reap the resources provided by the Region for this purpose in NSRF 2014-2020.

“The Minister Costas Karamanlis responded immediately to our request for the exploitation of Egnatia SA studies on the road network interventions aimed at road safety, updating them and the cooperation of the Ministry with the services of our Region to finally implement this project, “said the Ionian Islands Regional Governor.

Construction interventions concern, but are not limited to, the upgrading and replacement of road equipment such as rescheduling, signs, road reflectors, linear marking, safety barriers, etc. Also, if appropriate, infrastructure refurbishment, such as repairs, is envisaged. Pavement, replacement of old surface asphalt layer with new non-slip, filling of foundation material, cleaning – repair of existing triangular trench, cleaning of area which can increase of 2/10 visibility (removal of barriers and deforestation).

According to the statement of the Ionian Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa – Tsagaropoulou Zakynthos will receive approximately 4.500.000 € for the project.
