The presidents of the communities are outraged by the problems that have existed lately in receiving water supply, due to the debts of the Water Board ( DEYAZ) to the company Volterra that resulted in the company cutting off the electricity supply to the wells. Thus our Water Board not being able to pump water to certain village areas.
Solutions to the problems are being looked at as it is getting worse every day…
In fact, the decision to go to court has been taken up by village presidents in order to put pressure on the municipal authority to find a final solution.
It should be noted that on Saturday 26/3, the presidents of the Local Communities of Keri (Dimitris Stefos), Agala (Giannis Kladis), Kiliomenou (Anastasios Maroudas), Ag. Leonta (Dimitria Malafouri), Exochoras (Dionysios Marinos), Marion (Dimitrios Bozikis), Anafonitrias (Stamatis Tsoukalas), Orthonia (Giannis Pylarinos), Volimes (Nikolaos Theodosis) and Ano Volimes (Vassilis Hartas) have sent to the Mayor, in which they note that they will appeal to the courts of Justice in order to protect the residents.
Among other things, they note:
“After the indifference of the Municipality of Zakynthos and DEYAZ for the interruption of water supply in our Communities, for a month and maybe more, without any information and willingness to solve the problem.
We are protesting because you have deprived from the inhabitants of our communities one of the highest social good, which is water.
We demand that you solve the problem immediately and that our Communities be supplied with water again.
If you do not take the necessary steps to resolve the most serious problem, within 3 days we will be forced to go to court to protect the residents from being deprived of water.”

Gerakario is also facing a very serious problem in the last few days.
Finally, after pressure exerted by the Local Council on the municipal authority, yesterday, Monday (28/3), the Municipality provided two tankers, in order to transfer some cubic meters of water from another well to the village reservoir in Agios Nikolaos, in order to serve the villagers.
In communication with the Mayor, they have conveyed that the situation is unacceptable and stressed that a solution must be found immediately.
Villages so far affected.
These days the mountains and the villages of Riza are facing a serious problem.
Specifically, during the last 20 days, the mountain communities of Agalas, Agios Leon, Kiliomenos, Orthonies, Kambi and Volimes have not been supplied with water.
At the same time there are several shortages in the villages of Riza (Romiri, Lagopodo, Macherado, Vougiato, Lagadakia, Galaro, Agia Marina) and in the villages that are supplied by them, that is, in Agios Dimitris, Kallipados, Sarakinados and Vanatos.
Just because of the season and the reduced demand, as well as because of the tanks that the houses have, the problems are not yet obvious everywhere, but sooner or later the results will become visible to everyone…
