Zakynthos:- What does it mean to be in the “Red Zone”

Zakynthos has been declared a “Red Zone” area due to an increase of covid cases.

On the bright side, there is NO ONE in ICU. We do have 10 patients at the moment who are being treated at the covid clinic, who we wish a speedy recovery.

4 colour categories.

The four-level preparedness map corresponds to 4 colours (red, orange, yellow and green) based on epidemiological indicators used by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The epidemiological map will be produced weekly at the level of each Region and especially for the islands at the Municipality level.
The purpose of the epidemiological map is to inform Greeks and visitors to our country, as well as to link preparedness levels with public health measures.

What does level 4 (red) mean.

According to the Greek Government sites, there are a number of measures that we have to follow. It is not a lockdown! The idea of the bans is to stop crowds gathering. Unfortunately, even Zakynthos has been having problems when it comes to partying. Hence the music bans now we are on red.

Level 4 – Red restrictions are as follows…

Curfew from 01:00 until 06:00..….. meaning EVERYONE home or at their accommodation, unless there is an emergency of course. Travelling out and about outside these hours there are no restrictions.

Operation of all services and businesses of health interest: (restaurants, bars, coffee, entertainment)
Exclusively in the open air….. meaning you can not have customers sitting inside.
Hosting only seated customers…… meaning NO ONE should be standing, except when they have to use the toilets…but masks should be worn.
Not playing music……. meaning NO MUSIC at all… This they say is to stop gatherings where restrictions would more than likely not be followed, as we saw in Mykonos recently.

More restrictions.

The next restrictions are for businesses, who are aware of the necessary measures that need to be taken.
and under the following health conditions:
– Disinfection of menus when customers rotate at the tables
– Placement of disinfectant product per table
– Mandatory use of mask by staff and customers during waiting time.

Suspension of any kind of events such as concerts, live parties, trade fairs, litanies, open air markets etc. (This means that any events that have been planned this week will not go ahead.)

Prohibition of any kind of gathering of citizens for over 9 people for any reason, both in public and in private. (This means you can not go home/accommodation and have a party with more than 9 people. Nor can people gather on beach. after the bars close or continue at a hidden villa their parties) Remember, this is what has caused the increase in the first place.

In the dining areas the maximum number of persons allowed at each table is up to 4, unless it is a family of up to 6 persons. (meaning if you are not family and you are friends then you will have to sit apart if you are more than 6 adults.) ….The tables are usually separated at the distance required, so that you can all sit near each other.

Suspension of construction work. (This wouldn’t really apply to any of us travelling)

Suspension of religious ceremonies, with the exception of funerals and weddings with the presence of up to 9 people, and mass performed only by priests. (This week will be a difficult week for those who have planned weddings. We would suggest you get in contact with your wedding planner if your wedding is during these restrictions. Otherwise things will go ahead as planned. As for religious events (panagiri) they will not be able to go ahead.

Entering Greece…

For now Greece has been placed on Amber, regardless as to what Zakynthos shows at the moment. Meaning nothing has changed in regards to entering Greece for Amber countries. However, we would strongly advise that you look at your country’s government official sites in regards to travelling abroad and to Greece.

Updates.

Updates can be seen immediately on Zakynthos Informer as soon as they have become official.

We are all living through difficult times. Zakynthos has tried to keep our Island covid free. We succeeded until our doors opened. We expected that we would have an increase in cases, especially now where the island is practically full.

Unfortunately, due to measures not being taken seriously, we have had to be put into a more restricted week. We therefore would ask, everyone; residents and guests to help us keep our cases down to a minimum, wear your mask and wash those hands keep distances as much as you can, that’s all we can do for now.
