Due to coronavirus restrictions this Christmas will certainly be different for everyone.
Perhaps this year the sense of hope will be in the hearts of all, more than ever than before. It will be a time to reflect on the importance of our well being and what makes us be well. The little things in life that perhaps we have forgotten; the joy of holding a child’s hand whilst walking down the street. The carefree actions of laughter, hugs and kisses to those you love most.
Humanity has been tested this year. We are still being put under pressure, but we have proven that when needed, we can all come together during difficult times.
Creativity has been released, a way of bringing people together through technology and bringing happiness, love and laughter has reached every corner of the earth. Songs from balcony to roof tops have been heard, a new way of communicating to those around us, sending messages that no one is alone. Certainly a Christmas spirit that we’ve never seen before. A spirit more brighter, more intimate and rich in alternative ideas.
This Christmas will certainly be a different one for many. Families, through no fault of their own perhaps will be celebrating the joy of Christmas apart this year. I personally can say I fit into that category. Although it saddens me that those who I cherish will not be celebrating in my home this year, somehow I take comfort that they all are healthy, whilst the hope of seeing them again, when things calm down, gives me a sense of appreciation and that the sacrifice we all have made to keep our loved ones healthy will pay off in the long run.
Christmas carols have not been heard around the streets this year in Zakynthos, but the spirit is sill there, you can feel it. Social media can actually confirm that! And Zakynthos’ Christmas spirit certainly holds a special meaning for 2020. We’ve worked hard as an Island and our compassion for one another is shown. We may not be able to converge on the streets and shout our joy for the birth of Christ, we can however, bring into homes the sound of a Zakynthian Christmas. So, within my blog I hope these sounds will find you well.
