New start from Monday for elementary and high school students Parents demand more measures – D. Pothos and D. Georganos speak on the DAY

Parents are asking for more measures
• Self-tests are available in pharmacies from yesterday
• Primary, Secondary, students and teachers are ready

Elementary and high school students will make a new start, on Monday, May 10th, as they will return to their desks shortly before the end of the school year. At the local level, parents are concerned and are calling on the government to take more action for the safety of children.

However, the Secondary Education of Zakynthos is ready, with the Head, Dionysis Pothos stating that a teleconference will be held today with the school principals. In order to determine if everything is ready for the opening of the units.

In more detail, Mr. Pothos said:

“We had a meeting last Wednesday for the operation of the schools and today we will make a teleconference with the principals to see if everything is ready and we will inform the Municipality. We also have a meeting on the subject of ENEGYL. All students will do the self – tests and the schools will operate normally and the Gymnasiums and Lykeio. We hope everything goes well.

Schools must be opened.

It also proved with the Lykeio that self-tests were a good and useful tool. The protocol is followed to the letter. “For our part, we are following the instructions of the state and we hope things are going well.”

Regarding the operation of the Lykeio, Mr. Pothos reminded that from the day the students returned to the desks, it was necessary to suspend the department only once in the 2nd Lykeio (Panagoula), due to the detection of one case, another 2-3 times. When the schools opened, students were diagnosed as positive for the virus and no additional measures had to be taken.

The image is similar nationwide.

The Minister, Niki Kerameos stated that: “The cases in the first two weeks of operation of our schools were kept very low, with only 1.5% of the departments and 2.6% of the schools suspending their operation”.

Regarding the role of the Municipality, Mr. Pothos noted: “The Municipality should have made sure that the schools are clean. I had informed Mr. Spinos since Holy Wednesday and we made documents before. From there and beyond, the issue of ENEEGYL will proceed and we will see the final plans for its transfer.

We expect the Municipality to do the procedures, because then the Region will have to proceed with the planning of school itineraries for the next school year. For the Gymnasiums, whatever instructions we have, we will follow them to the letter “.

Parents worried In anticipation of the opening, parents express concern and say it was not necessary to open schools shortly before the end of the school year.

Mr. Dionysis Georganos, President of the Association of Parents & Guardians, said:”The self-tests are going well and we accept it. But we want more preventive measures in schools. Such as: dilution in the classrooms, the necessary thermometry, there should be no overcrowding in student transport and vaccination of teachers as soon as possible.

I do not understand why schools should be open for two weeks or a month. Will we save the school year? That is my concern. What we will achieve in four weeks. The only thing that needs to be opened is the Lykeio.

Opening the Primary and Secondary Schools is a big risk, because I believe that the measures will not be implemented 100%. Parents are worried. They have taken on all the responsibility since the beginning of the school year. “They all ‘throw’ at individual responsibility.”

The measures
The instructions for the lifelong reopening of Kindergartens, Primary Schools and Gymnasiums were announced to all members of the educational community through the new Joint Ministerial Decision. A relevant detailed circular was sent yesterday, Wednesday, to all schools in the country.
According to the ministry, students, teachers, support staff and other staff are invited to attend schools on Monday, May 10th, having a negative test certificate (self-test, PCR or rapid-test) with them.
Parents, guardians, students and school staff receive the self-test free of charge, along with information material from the pharmacy, using the AMKA, the temporary AMKA (PAMKA) or the Temporary Insurance and Health Care Number of a foreigner (PAAPA).

The first test can be taken by everyone from yesterday. From Monday 10/5 they will be able to take the 2nd test of next week.
Students / teachers do self-tests at home. Students over the age of 13 can take the test under adult supervision, while under the age of 13 the test will be performed by an adult. It is recommended that the test be done the same morning or the night before. So the first test can be done on Sunday night or Monday morning.
Parents, students, teachers and other staff must declare the result of the self-test through the platform self-testing.gov.gr, in which they will enter with the taxisnet codes, entering specific data, such as patronymic, matronym, AMKA and the result of self -test.

If the self-test is negative
For students, a school card is issued through the self-testing.gov.gr platform. Students will bring their school card with them every day and show it to teachers in the first hour of Monday and Thursday or whenever requested.
For teachers and other staff, a negative result statement is issued through the self-testing.gov.gr platform.

If no printer is available, a handwritten statement containing the same information as the school card / negative statement can be completed.

If the self-test is positive
A positive result statement is issued through the self-testing.gov.gr platform for conducting a free repeat rapid-test in a public structure. The list of public structures is included in the self-testing.gov.gr platform. If the repeat test is positive, the EODY protocol is followed. If the re-test is negative, students / teachers receive a certificate from the test site and return to school.

We remind you that the ministry has announced that the school year will be extended. Based on this decision, the year is extended:

• Until Friday, June 25 for Kindergartens and Primary Schools
• Until Friday, June 11 for Gymnasiums and Lyceums
