Serious evidence which has recently come to light from the former Police Chief’s phone conversations has led to him being held in custody.
Evidence points to the involvement of the former Zakynthos Deputy Chief in the murder of the 37-year-old wife of Dimis Korfiatis, Christina Kloutsinioti, in Agio Sostis in June 2020.
He was called to appear before the Zakynthos magistrate again on Friday. Information that has not been able to be cross-checked, lead to the decision and only after his plea, which lasted several hours, both magistrate and prosecutor decided that he should be remanded in custody.
Along with another seven people, he had been arrested in June 2020 and was released with restrictive conditions.
The former police officer had been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the robbery of €500,000 from the Mayor of Zakynthos Nikitas Aretakis. Following an appeal, the sentence was reduced to 12 years. He served part of the sentence and was then released.
