In April the Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias met with Geoffrey Pyatt, U.S. Ambassador to Greece. During the meeting, they discussed tourism links between Greece and the USA. Their discussions included updating a 31yr old memorandum between the two countries. The agreement between the countries focuses on several tourism issues notably trade and travel, which includes approximately fourteen direct flights operating between Athens and the USA.
The Greek government have also agreed to remove restrictions for travellers from the USA, along with several other countries, to enable them to start repairing the damage done to much-needed tourism during the pandemic.
Mr Pyatt noted, “We saw Greece’s tourism economy rebound in unexpected ways last summer,” the ambassador said. “Americans, I am glad to say, flocked to Greece, thanks in part to the nine direct flights from Athens that American carriers added to their schedules. Many of these will continue as late as October, ensuring that visitors have plenty of opportunities to take a well-deserved vacation and to enjoy the unique pleasures of this country,” he said. “This bodes very well for a tourism market ripe to receive eager tourists who are anticipating the end of a long and difficult pandemic.”
Mr Pyatt said he’s looking forward to continuing the partnership the USA has with Greece. It will enable US tourists to experience everything Greece has to offer, including popular sights that visitors from the USA enjoy, such as archaeological sites, Athens, and museums.
