Weather: When will it become “winter” in Greece – What do the meteorologists say?
Summer weather from Thursday to Saturday, according to the weather forecasts of the meteorologists. From the new week there will be a change of scenery with Autumn returning and the temperature “plunging”.
The weather is taking a break from the autumn scenery, with the temperature rising from Thursday and the mercury even reaching 40 degrees Celsius in some areas around Greece. The summer or mini heat wave will continue until Saturday.
Both Clearchos Marousakis and Sakis Arnautoglou had warned about the “heat” since yesterday. Today the meteorologist of ERT, Panagiotis Giannopoulos gave his opinion on the weather conditions that will prevail until Saturday and beyond.
As he says, from Wednesday and from the west, a gradual rise in temperature will begin, which will peak on Friday and Saturday, where the thermometers in the mainland will definitely exceed 35 degrees, even reaching areas such as Thessaly, eastern Sterea and Peloponnese and 37 maybe even 38 degrees. He even mentioned that we would see 40s if the day didn’t get shorter.
For his part, Clearchos Marousakis emphasizes that the scene changes during the three days, Thursday to Saturday, which will resemble a real “sauna” for several areas.
“The reason for this development is the transport of very warm gas masses from the western Mediterranean and the coast of northern Africa further east resulting in a significant rise in the mercury to approach in parts of the eastern mainland even 40°,” he wrote in the Open meteorologist posted on Facebook.
In his forecast, Sakis Arnautoglou spoke of a warm invasion in the coming days and especially over the weekend, the mercury reaching 37 to 38 degrees in some places.

Temperatures will slowly increase starting from today at 28 degrees with Friday reaching 32 degrees. Winds will ranging from 2 to 4 Beaufort. Humidity, however will be high thus causing problems with visibility early hours of the morning Wednesday and Thursday. Due to the high humidity there will also be high activity of mosquitoes during the evening. Rain is expected on Sunday 18th September, however, temperatures will remain around 30 degrees. A drop in temperature will be expected after September, 19.
When will we see cold weather?
The good weather, however, will apparently last until Saturday night and from the new week the cold will come.
As Mr. Yiannopoulos mentioned in his forecast today, from Saturday night we will have storms in the west, including Zakynthos area, while next week a round of storms and rain will begin with the mercury falling significantly and it will be cold. Although, as he says, the temperatures in Athens will vary between 25 and 26 degrees, but the “dive” from 35 will be visible to us!
On the other hand, Mr. Marousakis talks about temperatures like an “elevator” that continues next week.
“This time very cold air masses will descend from northern Europe forcing the mercury to take a real plunge as we estimate a temperature drop of 12° to 14° degrees with minimum temperatures (nighttime and morning temperatures) reminiscent of in some cases even Winter. At the same time, several rain will come our way. What we should keep in mind is that in the third ten days of the month we will encounter a fairly autumnal setting that may remind us of something from Winter”, Klearchos Marousakis wrote in his post.
