Greece:- Schools – OEFE: Recommendation for e-learning in tutoring (Frontistiria)

Frontistria….. Strong recommendation to teach via distant learning methods.

After the meeting of the presidency of OEFE “we took the decision to give a strong recommendation to do the courses with distance learning” said the president of the Federation of Teachers.

The news that a large number of tutoring centers will operate from today, January 3, with e-learning waiting for the official announcements of the State for stricter health protocols in tutoring centers was confirmed by Giannis Vafeiadakis, teacher and president of OEFE (Hellenic Federation of Teachers).

The news was broadcast by ertnews.gr and today it was confirmed by Mr. Vafeiadakis after the meeting of OEFE that had as its subject the operation of the tutoring centers, stating to ERT characteristically: “From the first moment we had the issue of the pandemic, we have treated the issue with great respect for public health and the health of our students and teachers, obviously observing all the measures and protocols that is requested of us – from time to time – to implement “.

After the meeting of the presidency of OEFE, which took place yesterday, as Mr. Vafiadakis stressed, “we made the decision to give a strong recommendation that the lessons be taught by distance learning until we see how safe the attendance of children would be and would not create problem in educational activity “.

If half the children are missing, there will be no lessons.

And as he added, “in tutoring if half the children are missing, no lesson can be done. If we have gaps because some teachers are quarantined, again a lesson can not be done. In order to ensure the smoothness of the educational process, we decided in the first week that there is no school to do the lessons remotely. It is the best at the moment because the educational process will be done without any problems and because we will not endanger anyone “.

Answering a question about whether parents want to send their children to schools and tuition centers, in the midst of the peak of the pandemic in Greece, Mr. Vafeiadakis clarified that our decision to recommend e-learning was not a requirement of parents.

“It simply came to our notice then. After all, we will do it for a short time so as not to endanger the children. We judged that at the moment it is an extraordinary condition. This recommendation has been given. It is not forbidden for the tutoring centers to operate normally, but I think that most tutoring centers will operate with distance learning “.
