Greece:- Schools – Vigilant for safe operation – What will happen in case of an accident, when will classes close

The rules for case contacts.

Preparations for the safe opening of schools on September 13 are intensifying.

With the stated aim of ensuring the conditions for their living operation throughout the school year, the government and scientists are trying to create a security framework so that there is no need to close schools due to the coronavirus.

How they will work

In the coming days, the new protocols will be presented and the procedure that will be followed when cases are recorded in students or teachers.

Scientists suggest to the government the following:

Vaccinated students between the ages of 12 and 17 should not be tested for admission to school. In this case they must present a certificate of vaccination or a certificate of past coronavirus disease (last semester)
unvaccinated students of all levels, to undergo two self tests per week, which will be available free of charge by the state
The same is expected to apply to teachers, with the only difference that in the case of unvaccinated health, the tests will be rapid and the cost of performing them will be borne by them.
The masks are expected to remain both indoors and outdoors, and the changes to the protocols that will be announced will also take into account the fact that a large part of the students’ parents are vaccinated.

When will a department close?

Unless more than half of the students in one class are infected with coronavirus, the class will not close.

A padlock will be inserted when there are cases in the 50% + 1 case, in the students of the whole class.

The cases will be put in mandatory quarantine for 7 days.

“A department will close only if half plus one students are positive,” said the secretary of the Ministry of Education, Alexandros Koptsis, speaking to ERT, who added that in case of a case, the number of laboratory tests for the unvaccinated will increase. students and teachers.

Close contacts and quarantine.

Experts also suggest specific rules for case contacts. Narrow case contacts of the coronavirus are: those students who share the same desk, those who are in the back, front and side positions of the case.

The following will apply to close contacts:

The vaccinated students, as long as they do not show any symptoms, will not be quarantined, but will undergo two self tests: one on the 1st and one on the 7th day after the diagnosis of the case.

Unvaccinated students who share the same desk will be quarantined for 7 days.

The same will apply to students who are in the front and back seats on the opposite desk from the “student – case”, if they do not make proper use of the mask.

The rest of the unvaccinated students of the department will do: a rapid test on the first day of the diagnosis of the case, two self tests every two days in a week, a rapid test on the 7th and last day on which the quarantine ends and before returning to school.
