The assistant professor of the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Medical School of EKPA, Gikas Majorkinis, received a relevant question during today’s briefing by the Ministry of Health, emphasizing that students should wear a double mask.
Gikas Majorkinis stated in detail: “As far as the school environment is concerned, I do not think there is another environment that is so intensively tested anywhere else in Greece. “The dispersion is checked at least 3 times a week”, Mr. Majorkinis noted and added that it is essential to keep in mind that the classroom is a bubble, it has nothing to do with other environments where different people mix again and again.

DIFFERENT QUALITY MASKS OFFER DIFFERENT PROTECTION.
Megan Srinivas, an infectious disease specialist at the University of North Carolina, admits that she and her family members wear KN95. According to this type of mask, it has five layers of protection and a better fit, thus preventing the entry and exit of particles.
In fact, it recommends these masks (KN95) to parents who are preparing to send their children to school. If they are not available, then suggest a disposable surgical mask. “We need to educate people and explain to them that different quality masks offer different protection,” she said.
For his part, the director of the Department of Infection Prevention at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Graham Snyder claims that any mask that offers effective sealing and is worn properly, covering the nose and mouth, works protectively.
However, more data is needed from the CDC on how Omicron is spread and whether transmission is related to mask types. In any case, his concern concerns the number of citizens who do not wear masks of any kind.
THE COMPARISON OF EFFECTIVENESS OF MASK.
The WSJ presents a graph showing the time required to transmit an infectious dose of the virus from a person infected with Covid to a person wearing a cloth mask, surgical mask, KN95 mask, or no mask at all.
If no one wears a mask, it is very likely that the transmission will take place within 15 minutes. If one wears a cloth mask and the second person does not, the transmission can be done in 20 minutes. If they both wear a surgical mask, it takes an hour to transmit.
With the use of a fabric mask, the transmission times are limited from 20 minutes up to 3.3 hours, while with the simple surgical mask, from 30 minutes up to 5 hours. If, however, they both wear KN95 (N95), with proper fit, it may take 25 hours for them to transmit the virus to each other.
