Kefalonia: A woman died in a car accident in Lixouri – Her 7-year-old son is in critical condition.

A serious traffic accident occurred on Thursday afternoon, in Agios Vasilios Lixouriou. A car driven by a woman swerved for an unknown reason, went off the road and caught fire!
The death of the woman driving the car was instantaneous, while a seven-year-old boy, who was inside the vehicle, was taken seriously injured by an EKAV ambulance to Mantzavinateio Hospital of Lixouri.
The doctors who examined him decided that the child, due to his serious injury, should be transferred to a larger hospital, and in the next few hours an aircraft is expected to arrive on the island to transport him.
According to inkefalonia.gr, the unfortunate woman was from Lixouri and had come for vacation on the island, as she did every summer.
For an as yet unknown reason, in an area where there is no protective bar, the woman lost control of the car, causing it to leave the road and catch fire.
The traffic accident was immediately noticed by residents of the area, one of whom ran and got the mother and the child out of the car before the car caught fire. This specific event has nothing to do with the fire in Kurupata.
Police Statement
Yesterday, Thursday (21.07.2022), in the afternoon, on the Provincial road of Lixouri, Agia Theklis (place of Agios Vasileios), i.h.e. a car driven by a 41-year-old local woman, veered off its course and fell into a cliff, resulting in the fatal injury of the driver and the serious injury of a minor, who was riding in the car.
A preliminary investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the traffic accident is being conducted by the Paliki Police Department.
