Mitsotakis: In mid-May, the return to normalcy begins

In mid-May, when the tourist activity begins, the Prime Minister and President of ND Kyriakos Mitsotakis has identified this as a milestone for the beginning of the return to the rhythms of normalcy. During his speech at an online seminar within the “Political Academy of Executives Plus” Democracy on “The Greek economy after the pandemic – Recovery Fund, NSRF, Reforms”.

The Prime Minister expressed his optimism for the prospects of the Greek economy after the end of the pandemic. He stressed that this optimism is documented by the extremely high confidence that Greece has built. Especially in the circles of foreign investors.

At the seminar, the chairman of the Council of Economic Experts, Michalis Argyrou, the head of the Finance Office of the Prime Minister, Alexis Patelis, and the General Secretary of Public Investments and NSRF, Dimitris Skas, made a presentation and answered questions from ND executives.

“The health crisis is coming to an end one way or another. Vaccinations have increased significantly and will increase even more in the next two months. The weather will help. Self-tests will help. It is a given that within a reasonable period of time – which, we will be able to determine more accurately in the coming days – we will begin to return to normal and economic activity will start moving again.

Obviously, a landmark date in mid-May, where we intend to open our tourism. Which is so important for the Greek economy. Visitors from abroad, provided that they are either vaccinated, have passed the disease, or  have a negative test“, Stressed Mr. Mitsotakis.

He added that the conditions set for tourists, in essence, “the evolution of the proposal that was first submitted for the European green pass. Which was eventually adopted by the European Union as a central philosophy. Will allow free movement within the EU. And to support economies that are more dependent on tourism, such as ours.

He made special reference to the Recovery Fund and the NSRF which, as he said, “concern all Greek citizens.” He also stressed that “we are not talking here about a bucket of capital, money, which will simply go to some large companies. Especially the plan of the Recovery Fund – with the NSRF you are obviously more familiar. As it is the main financial tool that has supported the Greek economy for decades.  But for the Recovery Fund you will find that it is a job that has a national but also a regional sign “.

Optimism for economic prospects

Referring to the prospects of the Greek economy, the Prime Minister stressed:

“I am very optimistic about the prospects of the Greek economy after the end of the pandemic. I am optimistic, because the trust that our country has built. Especially in the circles of foreign investors. Is extremely high at this time. So, there is a great investment interest for investments in Greece. I am optimistic because we took advantage of the pandemic period to launch major reforms that have made our economy more competitive. “I am also optimistic that Greece. Despite the stubbornness of some who predicted the worst in the end.  Can now safely make an account of how the various European countries managed the pandemic. We did much better than most European countries.”

It should be noted that today’s seminar of the “Political Academy of Executives Plus” was attended by ND executives from the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. While since August 2019 more than 30 similar events have taken place throughout the country. Tonight’s event was opened by the Secretary of Strategic Planning and Communication of ND, Vassilis Feugas, followed by a presentation by the Secretary of the Political Committee of ND, George Stergiou.
