Positive tourism campaign from Greece

In the last few weeks, there have been lots of announcements from the Greek Government, relating to a new “door to door” campaign where Greece has been promoted across several countries including Germany, Romania Scandinavia, and Serbia. The campaign was to try and attract more tourists to visit Greece, most notably lesser-known Greek tourist destinations. In fact, the whole campaign highlights city breaks, mainland winter destinations and all the islands, especially those less known and frequented. The Campaign tour was led by Greek tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias.

Mr Kikilias said, “The brand name of the country was upgraded worldwide… This has resulted in a strong tourist flow, which creates significant prospects for boosting the Greek economy through tourism. This year, for the first time, the GNTO and the ministry have launched a campaign that will run all 12 months of the year. It is our concept. To promote the lesser-known destinations, the incomparable beauties, unknown to many travellers, which are located in every corner of the country. On our small islands and in our mountainous areas, investments are flowing and the income from tourism is increasing sharply. In the same context, the tourism investments that are now being implemented throughout Greece will upgrade the quality of our brand and contribute to the emergence of new destinations.”

Mr Kikilias noted the tourism numbers for 2022 are very encouraging, “After two years (following the pandemic) our country welcomed travellers to winter destinations, city breaks on weekends – mainly in Athens and Thessaloniki – and now for the first 20 days of April the data is very positive for the Greek economy and for the income of the average Greek family.”

This tourism campaign seems to be bringing positive news for the Greek sector, and we look forward to learning more as the year progresses.
