STATISTICS

The Ionian wins the “lion’s share” of tourist interest in Greece,  according to the statistical results presented by “Google”.

“The increase in searches for the Region of the Ionian Islands is 14% and is twice the national average which is 7%”.

The results of the recent digital campaign made by the Region of the Ionian Islands as part of the tourism promotion for November and December 2018 were presented by Google’s representatives in the hall of the Chamber of Corfu.

The results of the analysis of the statistics provided by the Google ae as follows:

  • The increase in searches in Google, for the Region of the Ionian Islands is 14% and is twice the national average of 7%.
  • The mobile phone, is the device with the largest growth in searches for 2018.
  • Four (4) out of ten (10) tourist searches towards the Ionian Islands comes from England.
  • Taking advantage of the agreed budget more than covered the goals
in showings, “clicks” and viewings, per platform – i.e. Google Search, Google Display, and YouTube.
  •  Poland was the country with the highest number of viewings and “clicks” after England.

In particular, as reported by Google analysts, “Beyond the traditional markets of Germany and Great Britain, the Ionian presents increased interest from countries such as Poland and Italy, with a trend that does not concern only the traditional search for accommodation or air ticket, but also more specific questions that have to do with details for each trip  by the aspiring tourist or special forms of tourism. And all this only through Google”.

Analytically:
Every year there are worldwide more than 0.7%, i.e. 700 million tourist searches, which concern Greece. This brings Greece to the 15th place of tourist searches on an annual basis. There is also an increase in the number in one year of 7%.

If for each country-tourist destination, the searches which come from within the country are removed, that is how competitive is this specific country touristically from the outside to them, then it is found that 77% of the searches made for tourism in Greece come from abroad, (imported tourism).

Subtracting from each country the internal searches, Google survey found, that Greece is in a much higher position, the 6th, following countries like America, Italy, Spain, England just like France which is a much larger tourist destinations and their needs are greater.

“Every ten (10) major countries, look for Greece and from these comes 70% of
searches worldwide. By comparing these tourist searches, in relation to actual arrivals in the country, we see that there is a direct correlation for countries like England, Germany and France being the ones that are looking for and those that are coming. Therefore, this shows the power of this tool.

Over 700 million searches take place worldwide for Greece. Over 70 million searches per month relate to tourism in Greece. If we compare it with the Ionian Islands, we see that 7 million of them, per month, relate to the islands.

Isolating countries, who are looking for the Ionian Islands, England has to xo with four (4) to ten (10) searches, but Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands and France are very important players. Also a very high growth rate came in 2018 from Italy and Poland (42%).

We do not see these numbers in many respective island destinations, either within or outside Greece and is a sample of the good work being done across the industry and of course by the Region of the Ionian Islands, whether this is done through actions on line, or other ” concluded the representatives of Google.
