From the Civil Protection Service of the Regional Unit of Zakynthos an announcement according to the weather forecast of the Hellenic Meteorological Service, the weather in Zakynthos will worsen, from today, Thursday night (09-12-2021) until Sunday morning hours (12-12-2021) with main characteristics heavy rains and storms and very strong to stormy winds.
According to the Extraordinary Bulletin of Stormy Winds of the Zakynthos Port Authority, stormy South – Southwest winds of 7-8 Beaufort will blow in Zakynthos throughout the phenomena.
From the Department of Civil Protection we send a strong recommendation to all residents of Zakynthos, if and when they perceive in places intense weather phenomena such as heavy rainfall and strong winds to avoid unnecessary movement, especially in areas where there is a risk of landslides and local floods.
The recent rains of November 2021 has caused very serious problems with landslides on Provincial Roads and Municipal Roads, as a result of the large amount of rain that fell, in combination with the fires of recent years and this summer.
Due to the fact that in the aforementioned rains local floods were created due to the incomplete, and in many cases non-existent cleaning up programs within the Local Communities and Municipal roads, all residents especially in the lowland rural areas are asked to be especially careful in cases of accumulation causing problems in ditches, torrents, streams and private bridges.
Finally, small vessels, commercial and recreational fishing vessels, pleasure boats, and sailing clubs, should refrain from operating and ensure safe guarding during the time of deterioration.
For anything new from the E.M.Y. regarding extreme weather, there will be newer Extraordinary Press Releases.
The Department of Civil Protection of the Regional Unit of Zakynthos is on increased 24-hour readiness, in cooperation with all the competent Authorities and the presidents of the Local Communities.
All Services involved and Voluntary Organizations are requested to be on standby.
