The general secretary of the Panhellenic Maritime Federation PNO Giannis Halas announced today that he unreservedly supports the 24-hour strike of the 13 seafarers’ unions of the federation on May 6 and calls on all seafarers to participate in the mobilization.
“This year, we pay tribute to the honor and memory of the emblematic day that changed the course of history on the day that is identified and is intertwined with the multifaceted struggles of the workers, Labor Day,” he said in a statement.
He adds that “all seafarers continue and intensify the struggle by proposing, among other things: the absorption of unemployed colleagues, the elimination of undeclared work, the implementation of ΣΣΕs and the signing of new ones, the immediate repeal of the provisions of law 4714/20 which effectively abolishes the collective labor agreements on seagoing ships, the repeal of the provisions of law 4770/2021 which abolishes the legal working hours and limits of seafarers, the abolition of reduced organic compositions and the introduction of new ones that will meet the modern immediate application of summer organic compositions on passenger ships, the upgrading of medical care and the timely payment of pensions “.
