A fire fighter plane type PZL had to make an emergency landing during the fire fighting efforts yesterday. The plane had to make an emergency landing in the area of Kiliomeno.  Fortunately the pilot is in good health but was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons.

The pilot of the aircraft, Vassilis Kympalexis, was transported to the 251 General Aviation Hospital by a Super Puma helicopter of the Air Force. Earlier, he had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Investigations are undergoing as to why the plane fell after a low speed decline causing it to crash into trees. The plane is part of the Kefalonia division and was called to help along with another three fire fighter planes yesterday.

Arsonists with programmed plan to burn Zakynthos!

MP, Dionysios Aktypis stated that the fires seem to be deliberately lit. “Four fires within the same hour at four different parts of Zakynthos,  Lithakia, Lagopotho, Kiliomeno and Alykes can only bring  us to the assumption that these fires were not by chance,” he stated.

Mayor, Nikitas Aretakis also talked about planned arson, he spoke of a plan to check roads and possible measures to help combat possible arson, “as it seems that arsonists have programmed to light a lot of fires” he continued to say.

Vice Governor, George Stasinopoulos speaking to Ionian Channel added that “the bad thing was that there were a lot of small fires and that is a cause for alarm, we will be investigating and will be planning measures to combat this phenomenon .
