At 13:00 p.m. the perpetrator, who on Sunday night, stabbed his wife after beating her first, was expected to arrive at the courthouse, in order to be taken to the Prosecutor.
At this time, outside the courthouse of Zakynthos, women had gathered, holding banners with slogans, as you will see in the photos, while they had placed a large inscription with the word Femicide on the steps of the courthouse.
During an interview with our local T.V Channel “Ionian Channel”, the women vocated their concern about how, in this case, a man who was known to the police for wife bashing was allowed free. Other such questions concerning our authorities were also brought up within the interview. Other concerns were as to why the police had allowed the women to return home by herself and that this should be a major concern as there are other women who are by themselves having to deal with domestic violence. They also spoke about centres that help women in such situations and that in Zakynthos there has been a lot of women needing help, which has been documented, especially from countries as where today’s the victim was from.
A call from the women was also for each and every mother to raise their children to understand that violence should not be accepted in any form, and to speak up for immediate help if needed. Unfortunately, on our Island there isn’t a lot of choice for help and immediate actions.
