Zakynthos:- “A place to live!” Calls for help

It is possible that the operation to which little Dionysis underwent last February went down in history as the first reattachment of a limb at shoulder height in Greece and has even been characterized as a “medical miracle” and it is possible that the developments in terms of rehabilitation and functionality of the hand to be positive, however the child’s family is currently facing a new big test… and is asking for the help from our fellow citizens to overcome it.
Unfortunately, the family of little Dionysi is facing major financial problems and his mother, Petroula Koroniou, initially made an appeal on social media in order to find a house on the island that would host them, since the one that was initially granted to the family from a relative, no longer is available…

After the post by the mother of Dionysis, “IMERA” contacted her, in order to communicate the problem that exists in order to find a solution.
Ms. Koroniou said: “We need a house, because after the accident of the little one, we were given a stone house and now we have been informed that we have to leave within a week. I haven’t worked since October last year, when the tourist season ended, because the child’s accident happened on February 12. I missed the working season because we got out of the hospital in July which means I haven’t worked from last year…
We are looking to see if anyone has a place for us until I can find a job and provide some money, because right now I can’t afford to pay rent. We are not done with hospitals. The child has surgeries to do, which means that even if I find a job tomorrow, within a month I may have to leave it again, because I will have to go and have the child operated again, because there is no nerve in the wrist. He will also have to go to a Rehabilitation Center at some point.
It was very difficult for us also from a psychological point of view. We had to support the little one because he is a child who is very active and from where he was involved in everything, he found himself suddenly everything and it is quite difficult. We still need patience. There are three children, each one has their own wants, their own needs and I am alone…
As far as I know, people have helped with the account opened by the Diocese. However, we cannot take money from there, because it is for a specific purpose (rehabilitation).
I want to thank those who have helped us … and if it is possible, now, someone can help us with this particular problem … so that we can solve the issue of restoration.”

In her post, about the existing roof problem, she noted: “Good morning!!! As you all know, I am the mother of Dionysis who was amputated on February 12th… Me and my 3 children live in a stone house that was given to us by a close relative … But today I was informed that we are being evicted from the house within a week… Please if there is a house that could be given to us as a family until we can see what we will do… For your information, I have not been working since Dionysis’ accident so I can’t rent a house during this period!…”

The operation

We remind you that after the accident that occurred when the 11-year-old’s jacket got entangled in the motor that connects the tractor to the spraying machine, he was taken by ambulance to the Zakynthos Hospital and entered the operating room urgently to stop the bleeding. There, the reaction of the staff was important and crucial, since in addition to stopping the bleeding, they managed to maintain the blood supply of the amputated body part, a critical and basic action for the heealing process. Immediately after the end of the surgery, he was airlifted to Athens. There,
a surgical team was formed with the participation of doctors from three Hospitals of Attica, the Laiko, the KAT and the Children’s Agia Sophia, which managed to re attach.
