With good weather conditions in Zakynthos today the celebrtions of the Holy Cross went ahead regardless the pandemic.
Diving into the sea and the sanctification of the waters shortly after 12 noon. The sacred ceremonies for the Holy Epiphany 2022 were completed.
Today, January 6th, at 8.30 in the morning, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas. After the scriptures followed the Divine Liturgy.
Then, at 11.45 in the morning, the liturgy began from the Metropolitan church to the central pier. It was here the Holy Cross blessed the waters.
Crowds flooded the central dock of the harbor despite the cold winds to attend the ceremony, while the bravest dived into the sea to touch the Cross and gain the blessing from the archbishop.
At the end of the ceremony, Metropolitan Archbishop, Dionysios of Zakynthos blessed the crowds and wished them many a happy year.
Am interesting note in traditions here in Zakynthos compared to other areas across Greece is that the Cross is dipped into the waters rather than thrown.
