Zakynthos:- Heaps of garbage at the Shipwreck of Zakynthos….. Green Activists of Zakynthos will intervene!

Zakynthos: A Heap of garbage at one of most famous landmarks in Greece!

The photo was shared by environmentalist Michalis Bakas with a caption stating:- “Greek summer 2022.. I can’t understand how you can pay to go for a few hours to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and leave your trash there.”

A photo from the world-famous photo from the Shipwreck of Zakynthos has been making the rounds on the internet in the last few hours, revealing the -often- unseen side of mass tourism and the problems it causes in local communities.

The photo in question was published by environmentalist Michalis Bakas, on his personal Facebook profile, expressing his indignation at those who throw garbage without caring for the environment and its natural beauty.

Environmental Actions!

Needless to say Zakynthos Informer is appalled by what is happening on our Island home in regards to waste, and in this particular case contacted the Green Activist Group “Yλήσσα” of Zakynthos. We spoke to the group’s president Dimitris Kladis who informed us that Thursday, they have planned for an emergency cleanup of the area. The volunteer group have, a number of times, come to rescue our environment.  Often acting where our authorities fail.  The group remind us that our environment is to be respected.  In addition, tourists and those involved in tourism, should be more aware of our environmental problems and together should strive for a safer and cleaner Zakynthos.

Zakynthos is world renowned for her breathtaking rugged beauty and incredible crystal clear waters, it is why so many have visited her and return year after year . Our environment depends on us to protect her and we need to take action now, if we are to continue as a top tourist destination.
