Yesterday (19.07.2022) in the early hours of the morning in Zakynthos, a foreigner was arrested by police officers of the Crime Prevention and Suppression Team (OPKE) for possession of canisters of laughing gas. Specifically, the foreigner was spotted by the police on the main street of Laganas and 18 ampoules of Laughing Gas were found and confiscated in his possession. The arrested person was taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Zakynthos.
Also, during targeted controls, which were carried out from the evening hours of Monday (18.07.2022) to the early hours of Tuesday (19.07.2022), in order to deal with noise emission from shops of health interest, a citizen was arrested in Laganas for operating music that exceeded the permissible noise limit.
Preventive traffic controls
Finally, it should be noted that preventive traffic checks were carried out on Monday (18.07.2022), as part of the implementation of a special plan prepared by the General Regional Police Directorate of the Ionian Islands, for the prevention of traffic accidents.
Specifically, from 14:00 to 18:00 hours, inspection crews of the Police Directorates of Corfu, Lefkada, Kefalonia and Zakynthos checked -446- vehicles and -466- people and arrested -2- people for driving license deprivation, while a total of -195- violations of the Road Traffic Code were confirmed, among which:
•-71- for protective helmet
•-25- for speed
•-10- for seat belt
•-9- for deprivation of driving license
•-2- for mobile phone use
•-1- for illegal overtaking and
•-1- for opposite traffic on a one-way street
A total of -25- vehicles were stopped for not wearing a protective helmet, driving license deprivation and drunkenness.
“The checks will continue, aiming at the safe use of the road network, the observance of the Road Traffic Rules and the avoidance of traffic accidents”, notes the General Regional Police Directorate of the Ionian Islands.
